Mentor Guides

This guide supports mentors in the Mentors for Ukraine programme and the Women Buddy Program.

Session Frameworks

First Session (30 min)

  • Introductions and background sharing
  • Discuss mentee’s goals and expectations
  • Agree on session frequency and format
  • Set 3 goals for the programme

Regular Sessions (60 min)

  • Check in on progress since last session (10 min)
  • Work on a goal or challenge (35 min)
  • Action items and next steps (10 min)
  • Brief reflection (5 min)

Final Session (60 min)

  • Celebrate progress and achievements
  • Review goals — what was achieved?
  • Identify next steps the mentee will take independently
  • Complete programme survey

Best Practices

Do:

  • Listen more than you talk
  • Ask open questions (“What would help you most right now?”)
  • Share your experience without prescribing a path
  • Be reliable — show up on time, give advance notice if you need to reschedule
  • Acknowledge cultural differences without making assumptions

Avoid:

  • Giving advice as absolute answers
  • Comparing your experience to the mentee’s situation
  • Pity language or savior framing
  • Overcommitting on contact outside scheduled sessions

Scheduling Sessions

Sessions are scheduled via Kintell. You will receive a Kintell invitation when matched. Complete session notes after each meeting — they feed into impact reporting.
