Skills Mentoring
Skills Mentoring Guide
Skills mentors support participants in the Skills Academy — working through DataCamp, eCornell, or other platform content with practical guidance and accountability.
Skills Mentor Roles
| Role | What You Do |
|---|---|
| DataCamp Coach | Guide participants through data science tracks, review projects |
| eCornell Study Partner | Weekly accountability sessions, assignment discussion |
| Career Skills Coach | CV review, interview prep, LinkedIn optimization |
Typical Session Structure (60 min)
- Check-in (10 min) — progress on coursework since last session
- Working session (35 min) — tackle a specific concept, project, or exercise together
- Career application (10 min) — how does this skill connect to their goals?
- Next steps (5 min) — what to complete before next session
Working with DataCamp
If your participant is on DataCamp:
- Review their course progress dashboard before sessions
- Focus on applied exercises, not just video completion
- Encourage project-based learning from their DataCamp Projects tab
Working with eCornell
eCornell courses have weekly submission deadlines. Check in on these and offer feedback on assignments.
Scheduling
Sessions are arranged directly with your participant. Log completion in the TEEI system so it counts toward impact reporting.
